27 weeks!!

According to some things you read I am already in my THIRD trimester!  Whoa baby!

Stats:

Baby's length: 14 1/2 inches
Baby's weight: 2 lbs!
Movements: He's moving and a groovin' in there!  I love to feel him move :)
Cravings: I wouldn't say this a craving but I've eaten my fair share of Girl Scout Cookies this past week.  Is it bad that I really wanted some today, but didn't want to open them for fear I'd have to share them with my husband and brother-in-law?
Pregnancy issues: According to babycenter.com this week I might start to get some lower back pain.  Yea right, try like 26 weeks ago!
What I miss about not being pregnant: Not going to the rodeo cook-off.  I mean I could still go, but it wouldn't be near as fun if I couldn't drink beer and eat brisket while I was there!  And the smell of brisket makes me want to hurl right now.  And most people frown upon a pregnant chick drinking beer.

I've got a super busy week this week.  Jury duty tomorrow (how exciting!) work all week, and on Thursday I leave for INDIANA!  For my very first baby shower!  I can't wait to be home for awhile, even if it is just the weekend.  I have no idea what to pack though, for the past few weeks down here its been shorts and flip flop weather.  Do I need my snow boots for Indiana??

I realize that I haven't posted a belly photo in a few weeks.  Its not that I haven't wanted to, but I just don't remember to have Jeff take one.  And its a little hard to take it yourself when your camera weighs a few pounds.  But apparently, even if you have a very nice, expensive camera and lens, that doesn't mean that all of your photos are going to turn out well.  My loving husband took a few shots tonight and here are the best ones.

Sister moon, you've got your work cut out for you this weekend if you want to top these two gems!

26 weeks

We went to the doctor yesterday, everything looked great!  I had my glucose screening done yesterday as well.  The drink wasn't so bad, but chugging the entire bottle wasn't too fun.  Here's to hoping that I don't have to take the 3 hour test because I hear that drink is even stronger...yuck!

Stats:

Baby's length: 14 inches
Baby's weight: 1.75 lbs
Movements: A lot!  He is moving a lot more during the day now, so I'm hoping that he is getting his days and nights on the right track.  Don't tell me otherwise ;-)
Cravings: Well hopefully not fruit!  My doctor said to stay away from fruit and only have it in small servings because it makes pregnant women gain weight like crazy!  Although she said nothing about Girl Scout Cookies, so I'm open for donations!
Clothes: I've ordered a bunch of stuff from Motherhood Maternity, I'm super excited to get it in this week.
Pregnancy issues: Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited about being pregnant, and I was expecting to get a big belly.  The big butt and big thighs I could really do without.  I guess that means I just need to do more squats.

I'm SUPER excited about my very first baby shower next week!!!!  I can't wait to see all of my family and friends in Indiana.  The next week and a half will not go by fast enough!!

25 weeks

Stats:

Baby's length: 13.5 inches
Baby's weight: 1.5 lbs
Movements: Lily got kicked in the head last night!!  She had her head on my belly and he kicked her!  Her eyes shot open and she looked at me like "What the heck Mom!"
Cravings: Nothing really
Clothes: Can I just say that all maternity dresses make you look like a giant boat?  What's up with that?
Pregnancy Issues:  I started going to the chiropractor, I've been 3 times now and met with a physical therepist who showed me excersises that are good for pregnancy to stregthen your hip and back muscles.  Here's hoping that it all works!!

Nothing too exciting going on right now, we're leading pretty boring lives!!  Soon to be waaaay more exciting :-)

Houston Drivers

Dear Houston Drivers,

I know that not all of you suck at driving, just most of you.  Having recently gone through a Defensive Driving course (yes, maybe some of the Houston suckiness has rubbed off on me) I thought I'd share a few bits of information with you that you all have seemed to forget since completing your drivers education course.

1. When you are driving on a road that has 3-6 lanes going each way it is essential to use your blinker.  We're not mind readers, I don't know that you want to squeeze into the 2 foot space in front of me and the car in front of me, a little warning would be nice.

2. On that same note.  Just because you have your blinker on doesn't give you the right to come into the lane.  You should really check and see if there is space so that you don't hit the person in the lane next to you, or make them to slam on their brakes causing everything in their car to come flying forward and the contents of their purse to dump out all over the floorboard.

3. Last I checked we live in the South, not the West.  I'm pretty sure a little bit of rain is not going to make you melt.  So why does misty rain make my commutes 2-3 times longer?

4. When you're at a dead stop and you pull out in front of a car that is going 40mph, what are you thinking?  That you want to die?  Because that is whats going to happen....idiot.

5. So, you weren't paying attention and now you're going to miss your exit, bummer!  Unless! You are a Houstonian then it's really no problem at all to cross 5 lanes of traffic, the shoulder, narrowly missing stone medians, cutting off everyone in your way just to avoid having to go down one more exit and making a u-turn.  If you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.  Just go to the next exit which is probably 200 ft further down the road and make a freaking u-turn to get to your destination.

6. I get it, you need to get into the next lane because you're exit is coming up, but that doesn't really give you the right to stop dead in the lane that you're in, backing up traffic, almost causing accidents because you're stopped dead in the road.  It's called easing into the lane, if you can't do it, you shouldn't be driving in Houston rush hour.

7. Speaking of changing lanes, if you want to change lanes just do it!  Don't drive in the middle of two lanes for 1/4 mile, it's really annoying to the people behind you.

8. You're lost, that sucks.  Doesn't you're phone have GPS, pull over and plug in your destination, do not slam on your breaks at every cross street trying to read the street signs.

9.  What is it with people and making their own turn lane?  I'm talking to you San Felipe/I-610.  I've been in the unfortunate situation before where I haven't been able to get into the lane to turn and get on 610 and you know what I did?  Turn from the lane next to it, royally pissing off the people that now have to sit at the light again because I blocked the lane?  NO, I continued straight and went to Target.  We have options people, make the best decision.

10. The far left lane is always the passing lane, not the drive really slow and make people angry lane.  If you want to drive the speed limit or below then get in the right lane, don't make people pass you on the right and give you the bird simultaneously.

11. I realize that the proper thing to do is to leave 2-3 car lengths in between you and the car in front of you, but when we're all going 10-20 mph is it really necessary?  All that does is leave space for everyone and their neighbor to get in front of you slowing you down even more.

So some of these suggestions might not have come directly from Defensive Driving, they may be more from Victoria's Less Annoying Driving School, which I think everyone should take.  If you're interested in signing up please let me know :)

24 Weeks

I feel like time is slowing down right now, which maybe is a good thing considering we have so much to do!  I was so gung ho on getting the nursery done, but after painting that is where it has stopped.  My lovely husband is putting up wainscoting, we got a new light but didn't like it so currently there is no light in that room, I can't seem to pick out a crib (ahhhhhh!!!!), I keep thinking about putting in hardwood floors in there and then change my mind.  So yea, maybe its a good thing that time is sloooooowing down.

Stats:

Baby's weight: About 1 lb 4 oz
Baby's length: About 12 inches
Movements: He is moving so much more now!  The only bad thing about that is the days that he doesn't move as much and then I get worried.  Dang, I'm going to be such a worry Mom!!
Cravings: Granny's Outrageous Chocolate Chip cookies.  They may not be such a craving for me but for Jeff, I've made them 3 times in the past 2 weeks ;-)
Clothes: I'm feeling huge and I hear it only gets worse.  Great.
Pregnancy issues: Having your belly hit things before you expect it to.  That is a major issue.
Bump watch: Its getting bigger!

I had a lady at work yesterday tell me that I was huge all over.  I'm not really sure how to take that, I really wanted to slap her but I felt that I might get in trouble for that.  I'm not sure why people think they can just say anything and everything to you because you're pregnant but believe me, telling a pregnant lady she looks huge doesn't do anything for her already downward spiraling self esteem.  Just something to keep in mind :)

Oh! And I almost forgot.  On babycenter.com this week baby is compared, length wise, to Indiana's favorite vegetable....an ear of corn!

Snow Day!

Or not.

Both mine and Jeff's offices were closed today.  It was predicted that we were getting ice and few inches of snow.  We were all "hunkered down" to battle the blizzard of 2011.  And this is what we woke up to.

A huge dissapointment

To be fair, we do have lots of ice.  And I just read an article that said there were over 100 accidents this morning causing the city of Houston to shut down some of the freeways.

So to recap lets review.  The above photos is the extent of the weather that has caused the entire city of Houston to shut down.

And THIS, is what has thrown in a wrench in Chicago's weekday plans. Photos taken by my very cold friend in Chicago.

So I think its safe to say that we in Houston have it waaaaay worse.

Keep warm y'all!!!!

New Years Resolution

So I know that it's February but I've just now decided to set a New Year's Goal.  (I also reserve the right to change that goal in June to losing weight!)

Organize the house!

I hate, hate, hate clutter.  I hate stacks of papers and unnecessary items sitting out.  There seems to be no way to avoid all clutter other than get rid of my husband and his need to keep bills from 2006, but I do try, and I would never get rid of my husband crazies!

We did this past weekend get our office organized and I couldn't be more pleased with it.  No more boxes stacked on the floor, no more overflowing papers, a whole BOX of stuff thrown away.  Whoop! whoop!

Having the office clean and organized makes me want to paint the room!!  And I don't think that I've ever posted photos of our desk.  Jeff and I made the desk, it has space on both sides for two work spaces, space in between as "drawers" and it works out perfectly for our office because we can both work at the desk at the same time.
Next up: Craft room, that has now become the Junk Room :-)
