2 weeks old!

I can't believe that Maddox is already 2 weeks old!  He has had a very busy first 2 weeks.  We were in the hospital until Thursday morning.  He had some visitors in the hospital.  Nana Jules and Papa Ron came to visit and Uncle Chris.  Kayleigh and Christine also came to see Maddox in the hospital.

Big sister Lily was very excited to meet Maddox (a little TOO excited at first!) But she calmed down and I can already tell that she'll will be his protector forever.  When he's crying she's concerned and she loves to give him kisses :)

Papa Thom and Mamaw Pam stopped by on their way from Arizona back to Indiana to meet Maddox.

Last Tuesday we had our very first pediatrician visit.  He was down to 6lbs 4oz so we had to go back the next day to get re-weighed and make sure he was getting enough to eat.  Good news is that he is!

On Friday Aunt Angie got into town.  Saturday brought Uncle Mark, Aunt Jackie and Uncle Randy.  Maddox had a busy weekend meeting all his aunts and uncles!  I think he won them all over with his good looks and charm.

Aunt Angie was nice enough to take some family photos for us.  I'll post them soon!

We had our 2 week doctor's appointment this afternoon.  He looks perfect, he's putting on weight like a champ.  He's 7lbs 6oz and 20 inches long.  He's in the 30th percentile in weight, 50th in height.  We go back in two weeks for his month old appointment and if the past two weeks is any indication of how fast that time will go I feel like I'll be updating you on that appointment before I know it!

In case you missed it....

I posted some photos of Baby Maddox over on my photography blog.  I think they are pretty cute, but its hard to take a bad photo of such a cute baby boy :)

38 Weeks....and he's here!

Monday morning I asked Jeff to take a photo of me because my Mom was asking for one.  I uploaded it before we left for our doctors appointment and planned to write a blog post about 38 weeks once I got to the office.  BUT....I never made it to the office!

At my appointment my blood pressure was high.  The only other time that has ever happened was my very first appointment with the baby.  I was joking with Jeff about how funny it would be if my blood pressure was high my first appointment and last one.  The were very concerned about my blood pressure, but I really wasn't, I felt fine.  My doctor said they would retake it after she checked my cervix.  If it was still up she was sending me to the hospital for observation.

But none of that mattered because when she checked my cervix I was dilated to 6cm!  I never in a million years thought I could be dilated to a 6 and have no idea.  She said I had to go straight to the hospital.  I argued with her about going home and getting my bag and dropping off one of our cars (because we drove separate to the doctor), but it was a no go.  Not only did I have to go straight to the hospital, they made me sit in a wheel chair to go!  I felt really bad for the poor nurse that had to wheel me over there, she got her workout for the day.

Jeff ran home to get my bag, and a big thanks to Christine Cordier for going and picking him up and dropping him back off at the hospital!  Once he finally made it back to the hospital I was already checked in, got a room and was hooked up my iv's.  It definitely was not how I pictured going into labor and going to the hospital.

I was feeling contractions but they were not very strong so they started me on Pitocin to make my contractions stronger to dilate my cervix more.  I really wanted to do a natural birth with no epidural, but I wasn't against getting an epidural either.  After being in labor with strong contractions for 6 or more hours I was so tired that I decided to get an epidural  so I could get some rest before I started pushing.  Unfortunalty I was a special case and the anesthesiologist had to come back 3 times for it to take full effect.  By the time it kicked in I was dilated to 10 and it was time to start pushing!  So much for getting some rest!

Long story short (because I don't have time to write the long version) after pushing for 1 1/2 hours and then having to STOP pushing for 30 minutes (which was BRUTAL) and then pushing for another hour or so my doctor made the call that it was best if I had a C-Section.  Not what I wanted, but at that point I knew that something was wrong and I just wanted my baby out safe and sound.  It turns out that each time I pushed his heart rate dropped dangerously low, he was face up instead of face down and his cord was wrapped around his body.  I never dreamed I would have to have a c-section, but it doesn't really matter because all that matters now is that he is here, healthy and our family is just that much more complete :)

The Nursery!

We're still waiting on his glider to get here.  It should be here next week, hopefully it makes it before he does!

The big frame above his bed is where the first letter of his first name will go.  The J and the L are for Jeffrey Lind (middle and last names) The J is matted on a Houston map (where Jeff grew up) the L is matted on an Indiana map (where I grew up) and Baby Lind's letter is matted on a Pearland map!

36 weeks

Welp, only 4 more weeks to go OR LESS!  At my appointment on Monday I was already dilated 3cm.  My doctor immediately said, "Well, you're not going to make it to your due date" Whoo hoo!  Although, 36 weeks is just a little too early to have him.  Apparently little white boys suffer from Wimpy White Boy Syndrome and they take the longest to develop their lungs.  So the longer he stays put the better.  My doctor suggested working from home half days just to take it easy and keep him in at least one more week.

BUT, going in for your appointment and thinking you had 4 weeks to get things done and walking out with the knowledge that you probably won't make it another 2 weeks gets your butt in gear to GET THINGS DONE!  So how am I supposed to take it easy when my list of things to do is a mile long?  Sheesh....

On another note, I'm huge.

We conquered a few items on the mile long list today.  One of which was to put together his swing.  We figured we should test it out before we put him in it.

It works!
