Love Story

I must say, Netflix is really one of the best inventions ever. Today I was flipping through our Instant Download movies and I saw Love Story included.  If you haven't seen the movie, it was made in 1970 about a well off Harvard school boy and his girlfriend, the daughter of a baker.  His father disapproves, disinherits the son, blah, blah, blah, long story short girl dies, father feels bad, son is sad, the end.

Here's the Victoria official review of the movie:

I'm not sure if I'm watching the wrong movie and I somehow missed the classic must see movie that critics call the greatest love story of all time, but the one I watched really, really sucked.  The acting was bad, like super bad and what was with all of the pointless scenes that didn't add anything to the movie.  The entire thing was pretty confusing.

The worst part however was the ending.  First of all, WHAT was Jennifer sick with?  I was so confused and curious that I Googled it (while I was watching the movie) and found out that I didn't just miss something, they really never say what she is sick with, and no one seems to ask!  Also, get this, in my Google search, I found out that there is a movie term named after the "illness" that Jennifer has in the movie and it's named after the actress herself.

The Ali McGraw disease "Movie illness in which the only symptom is that the sufferer grows more beautiful as death approaches."

The best part is the tag line "Love means never having to say you're sorry."  Hmmmm.....I'm going to have to call BS on that one. Love only means you should apologize quicker.

So now I've moved on to Julie & Julia and it's actually got me in the mood to cook!  I better get on it fast before the urge disappears.

3 years!

Wow!  I cannot believe that 3 years ago today Jeff and I were GETTING MARRIED!  It seems like just yesterday.

We had an awesome wedding.  We got married at our favorite place, Purdue, with all of our favorite people in attendance.  It was so cool, and unfortunately will never happen again, to have all of the people we love the most in the entire world all in the same room, and the best part was there were there to direct all of their attention to me!  Oh, and Jeff too I guess ;-)

We got married at University Church, on campus.  We wanted to get married ON campus, like outside at one of the fountains, but there was a Presbyterian youth conference at Purdue that weekend and there were over 3,000 kids crawling all over campus.  When I found that out I thought it'd be better to use a church, and we were lucky enough that the church on campus someone canceled their wedding and it opened up for us.  Sucks for them, yay for us!  The only downside was the sanctuary was not air conditioned.  Thank the Lord it was in West Lafayette, IN and not Houston, TX.

Our reception was wildly inappropriate, but was a ton of fun.  Our cake was the most beautiful wedding cake I've ever seen.  My niece caught my bouquet and all of my friends were mad, while the garter landed on the floor because none of the guys wanted it.  People from the reception next door came over to our reception because it was more fun, and that one had a live band!  We were supposed to be out of the room by 11pm and I think it was after 12 before it was cleared out.  I've said many times that I wish we could do it all over because it was that much fun.

One word of advice for brides to be, EAT SOMETHING (and maybe go to bed before 5am).  You don't want to be like me and toss your cookies at your own reception, in the trash can outside the door.  Thankfully my photographer was holding my veil back instead of taking pictures!

Jeff I love you so much, I'm so lucky to have found you!  MUAH!

Craft time

I've come to terms with the fact that it will be awhile (perhaps a loooong while) before we buy an actual bed. To make myself feel better, and to help in making our room more complete I decided I needed something big, and more importantly long to hang over our bed.  Not wanting to spend a lot of money, this being a temporary thing, and the fact that I'm cheap, I decided to make something myself.

I bought 5 of the flat canvases from Hobby Lobby, used a sample paint from the color I thought I would paint the bedroom, one small bottle of craft paint and a damask pattern stencil.  I painted the canvases with the sample paint, which is one shade darker than the walls in our bedroom, then I used the damask stencil and the craft paint (in turquoise) to  stencil the pattern onto the canvases.  After I got them all finished I decided they really needed a frame.  So, I enlisted the help of my handy husband to build me one.

Here's the finished product

Once I got it hung I really wished that I had painted it ALL different and did stripes or something else that isn't matchy matchy, but since it's temporary and I don't really want to take it apart and start all over, THIS IS IT!

Oh, and it actually is centered with the bed and it's not crooked.  I just really took a horrible picture.

The Look-a-like

I must have one of those familiar faces, because I get all the time "You look like someone I know!" or "You look just like insert celebrity name here"

I've been told numerous times I look like Hilary Duff.  It must be the horse teeth, I don't know, but I don't really see it.

I've also been told I look like Reese Witherspoon.  I WISH! I also wish I had half her money, but no one has ever compared my wealth to hers ;-)

One really nice fella at my old job told me one day that I look like Phylis Diller.  Really?  That's awesome.

Oh! I get it, we both have crazy hair!

Another fine gentleman at my old company was obsessed about me looking like Hayley Mills, you know the girl from the original Parent Trap?  I'll let you be the judge.

All good things must come to an end :(

We were so lucky to have some of our very best friends come and visit us for the 4th of July.  They left this morning to head back to Indiana, I hope they had a good time!  Thankfully, Alex stayed away for most of the weekend and we actually had pretty awesome weather.  Actually, maybe I should be thanking Alex for cooling our hotter than hell city down for a few days while they were here.

My favorite meal of the weekend:
Eating at Lupes!!!  Happy Birthday Shonk!

My favorite activity of the weekend:
Finally getting some much needed sun at the Lind's swimming pool.  Thanks Ron and Julianna!

My favorite Houston activity that I FINALLY got to do!
The ZOO!  Thanks for going with me Jaime.  If you haven't been to the Houston Zoo, it's very nice.

My favorite question of the weekend:
"When are you moving back to Indiana?" :) ??????

Miss you guys already, come back and visit SOON!

Hurricane Alex

Hurricane Alex, thank you for the rain
now please go away, before you become a pain.
It's the 4th of July, a weekend for fun
fireworks, BBQ and time in the sun.
We can't very well do that if you're in the way,
if you love me at all, just listen when I say.
We have friends in town, they'll think Houston sucks
for them to visit again we'll have to give a few bucks.
Rain, rain, go away
Come again another day
Like July 6th, because we really do need it.

Sincerely
VEL
